My PS3 tells me he has lost the connection to media server "?

Every time I try to play a game on my PS3 it says I need to the new software update 1.04. Therefore, click OK and the progress bar gets up to about 4% and my PS3 says it has been disconnected from the media server! I do not know what do, I found an internet connection test and everything seemed fine. I can not update the software and play my game! Does anyone know what is wrong? Thanks
