Xbox live (360) update failure **HELP!!**?

Hey, i recently bought a pre-owned xbox 360 pro, with 20gb hardrive. All the games and everything works, but when i go to join xbox live.. it comes up with a console update, that i must accept to continue.. so obbviously i click yes… a couple of seconds or sometimes a couple of minutes i get another message sayn it has failed to update ” go to xbox.com/support for help and so on…

when updating file could got corrupted try doing this # urn on your Xbox 360.
# Scroll across to the system tab and select the storage devices option.
# Highlight the hard drive option (it should say “Hard Drive, 12 GB free”, for example).
# Enter the following button sequence: Y, X, X, LB, RB, X, X. The following message should appear: “Do you want to perform maintenance on your Xbox 360 storage devices?”
# Select “Yes”.
# Restart your console. You have now cleared your hard drive cache and your Xbox 360 should run faster and have improved game-play on certain games (The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, Halo 3, or other games).
