Are XBox 360-games region-specific?

Hey there, I was wondering if I could buy XBox 360 games in the US and then use them on my XBox 360 in Germany. Now, I’ve heard that the US uses something called NTSC, and Germany uses PAL, which makes some video-games incompatible. Does that also apply for XBox-Games?
Or does it even depend on the TV I use?

The TV standard is unimportant (in the old days it was relevant for Sega and Nintendo etc.). Nowadays it’s a requirement to have a 60Hz compatible display (all HDTVs are and most TVs in the last 15 years are, too).

PAL, NTSC-US and NTSC-Jap are regions that are used by Microsoft simply to differentiate it’s markets so that you can’t buy from one region and play that game on a console from another. Simple as that. And yes, this applies to Xbox 360 and Xbox games – regardless of the TV/Monitor/HDTV that you use.
