is there an updated Xbox 360 console coming to Australia?
i wanna buy a 360, but i hear theres a new jasper motherboard which will replace the falcon reduce chances of the RROD. and then theres a rumour of a valhalla “all in one” chip and an xbox 540 or 360 slim which i read in posts from around May this year. are there any recent developments? are the still all rumors? if they’re true when would the come to Australia (guess)?
The Jasper chipset is already out for a long time, and all currently available models have been fixed for the main cause of *the* RRoD.
The 360 slim or 540 are just rumor and speculation.
The Valhalla all in one chip is only to reduce the cost to manufacture the console. The console itself will work exactly the same as all other consoles currently on market.
The only difference with some new Arcade models is, that the new models have 256MB of Flash memory built in instead of the old models with seperate Memory Unit.
This can be an advantage or disadvantage, depending on what you want to do.
The old Arcade with its portable Memory Unit allows you to take your Gamertag and savegames with you to friends.
The new Arcade with built in Flash has internal memory, so you don’t have a Memory Unit constantly plugged in and sticking out of your sleek console. It’s also necessary for the New Xbox Experience, as it needs 128 MB of cache memory for downloaded items (like the magnitude of different clothes, if you have a lot of friends in your list).
So basically, get the Xbox 360 now. There is no reason to wait for Valhalla, as it’s only saving Microsoft some money producing the Xbox. It will have the same functionality as the first Xbox 3 years ago with all the current updates.
