My Xbox 360 won’t play my old games HELP!!!?

I just bought an Xbox 360 cause my old first Xbox got the famous flashing red ring. I was told that they would play the old Xbox games by people from like Best Buy and other places, well I get it home, put a game in and it wouldn’t play it, I have 25 games and only 9 would play! I am very unhappy about this, is there any way to get them to play or am I just screwed!?

go on xbox.com and check to see if the games that didnt play r compatible. if they r sign in to xbox live and dowload the update. not all games r compatible but microsoft is working on it
